7 top tips for kids on how to take a great adventure travel picture

1.  You don’t need all the ‘gear’.

Here at The Family Adventure Company, taking the ‘perfect’ shot for us is all about the right subject and the right atmosphere ie our families. And we found that we don’t need the latest digital camera and high tech tripod to take it on. A good old iPhone will do the trick just as well and most importantly, if you capture the spirit of the scene, then that’s enough for us!

2.  It doesn’t have to be what everyone else is staring at.

Kayaking

If you see something that looks interesting to you, take a picture. It might not be a shot of Angkor Wat or the Taj Mahal, (although we love these too!), sometimes the best images are of a smile, a group hug...what about your mum’s expression when she first sees the Taj Mahal, or first hits the water in a kayak - who else will have that shot?

3.  Practice at home.

Practice taking a picture of something you love at home, something that interests you. Your cat or dog will be the perfect moving practice subjects especially when you come to put your practice to the test and take a great shot of 4 on a motorbike in Vietnam or your family jumping in front of the Serengeti.

Camera

4.  Try different angles.

Look at your subject from the left, right or even upside down. Not only will you have great some exciting unique images, you’ll have a great time trying to move into new positions, especially upside down. If you have to get on your dad’s shoulders, so be it!

Finding the image

5.  Don’t delete anything!

Probably our most important tip. It can be really tempting to scroll through your images at the end of the day and delete something a little out of focus or that didn’t come out right. But, your image might look better bigger, in a different colour, cropped or you might think completely differently when you’re back home. Wait until you share them with your family on the computer

at home for a second opinion, before they go in the recycling bin. Our family is pretty big over here and we’ve had plenty of images back out of the bin.

6.  See with your eyes, not the lens.

If you’re on a quest to make the perfect image for your bedroom wall, remember to put the camera down and really look at the landscape before you. Sometimes memories are better than any image so take a good look at what interests you before you start snapping away.

7.  It’s not the places but the people who make your image.

Children playing Travelling with family

We couldn’t imagine travelling without our family and although it’s amazing to go to far flung destinations, our memories just wouldn’t be as fond if we didn’t go with our family. We love to see images of families having fun together, even if it’s just a lunch stop in the Pyrenees, or a long boat journey in Thailand; big smiles make big pictures.
