Croatian Active Teenage Holiday
This multi-activity family holiday to Croatia is great for those that love water and excitement - run the rapids whilst white water rafting, canoe down rivers and kayak on the Cetina River. Combine all this with cycling through villages and discovering Split's rich history and you have the recipe for an unforgettable week!
Arrive in Split
Following your flight to Split you transfer (40km) to Trilj, your base for the week, where you check in to your hotel. We stay in a small hotel located right on the Cetina River. The hotel has a Brand new swimming pool, dedicated games room area with a pool table, table football and table tennis and is located just a short walk from the cafes and restuarants in town. Rivers, canyons, forests, country roads, hills and caves in the area provide wonderful settings for adventure, water sports and relaxation.
SV Mihovil Hotel (AA) - 7 nights (BD)
After breakfast we transfer to the Cetina River, where we start our rafting. The Cetina is widely considered the first and best white water rafting river in Croatia. Traditionally, Croatians have been travelling the river on wooden rafts, but we go for the safer and more comfortable option of inflatable rafts! The Cetina is a dam controlled, safe river with some wild grade four and five rapids and big waves - this is a great river to try your hand at white water rafting. The river gradually slows and changes into easier rapids and calm sections which are great to relax in, swim and enjoy the spectacular scenery of forest covered canyon and trees that reach the water’s edge. Please note: if the water levels are low and the river too calm for rafting kayaks will make the trip more interesting. (BD)
Today our main activity is on land as we take to mountain bikes to explore the countryside. We are transported to the top of the Vostone Hill 18 km away to start our ride. Clearings of the mountain Kamešnica are not as green as the hills around Trilj, but the ride through rarely populated authentic mountain villages and pastures will provide an almost mystic atmosphere. We cycle downhill to Ruda, then Grab and back to the hotel. If the outside temperature exceeds 30 c then we start from the spring on the river Ruda, via Grab and back to the hotel. In the evening we can relive our biking experiences over dinner! (BD).
Today we head back to the water and our activity is mini rafting on the Cetina River. We transfer from the hotel for 20 minutes and start our half day mini rafting adventure in the village of Cikotina ladja on the river. The mini rafts are a hot dog in shape and seat 2 or 3 passengers, you have no captain and you are in control yourselves down the river. (BD).
Rafting and Beach Day
Today we are back in the water as we grab our rafts and take to the river at a small village called Zadvarje. Our rafts are led by a guide and there are 3 people on either side powering the raft. The guide at the back takes control of most of the steering for you. (BD)
After all the exertion of the last few days, we have a quieter day and on on two legs rather than on the water. 20 minutes from the hotel there are the Roman ruins of Tilurium which was an Illyrian fortified settlement that we walk to and explore. We follow this up with a treasure hunt style activity in the woods opposite the hotel before returning for a game of table tennis or a dip in the pool.
Free for optional activities
On your final day we can be as active or as lazy as you wish. We can take a bicycle tour to other places of interest in the area or set off on foot for more independent exploration. If you are ready for some urban surroundings, why not visit Split, Croatia's second largest city. Split offers an exciting mix of the old and the new, as you can wander cobbled streets, visit ancient buildings or sit at a sea front cafe. Just outside the city are some coastal paths you can explore. (BD)
Transfer to Split; fly home
The trips finishes this morning after breakfast and you will be transferred to Split for your flight home. (B)
Cycling & Canoeing
A bike tour along country roads and through local villages is a great way to see the countryside at a pace that allows you to experience it much more closely than from a vehicle. Enjoy canoeing on the Cetina River and exploring its beautiful turquoise pools. After a day spent paddling, the pools are perfect for a welcome swim.
Kayaking & Rafting
Rafting the Cetina river takes you through a high-sided gorge of impressive karst formations. The rafting itself is an exhilarating way to start your visit to Croatia and an experience you will not forget!
At the end of your trip you head back to Split, Croatia's second largest city and home to a wide variety of vibrant culture, that you will have time to discover. On your return journey you travel via Trogir, a medieval town of narrow cobbled streets which makes for a fascinating visit before you head home.
