Peruvian cities nominated for prestigious accolade

Two Peruvian metropolises have been nominated as finalists in the New7Wonders Cities campaign.

Cusco and Lima have become increasingly popular among tourists in recent years as both have their own unique charms and provide adventure travellers with plenty of things to see and do.

They will go up against a host of other cities from all around the world in the competition, including a number of conurbations in South America such as Bogota in Columbia and the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires.

The country has already tasted success in a New7Wonders competition, as Machu Picchu was declared one of the Seven Wonders of the World a few years ago, which has encouraged many more people to take Peru holidays.

More than 1,200 cities are in the running for the new accolade at the moment, but this will be whittled down to just 300 by November 2012. Voting will then continue until 2013, when the seven successful cities will be officially revealed.
