Peru to host major music festival in 2014

The Rock in Rio music festival is a huge event that attracts thousands of music fans each year.

Although it has traditionally been limited to destinations in Spain, Portugal and Brazil, it has been revealed that Lima will host some of the concerts in 2014.

According to the city's deputy mayor Eduardo Zegarra, more details will emerge in the next few days, but he confirmed to Andina that organisers of the event are keen to finalise a deal to stage the gigs in the South American country.

The city has been building a big reputation for hosting live shows from some of the world's biggest acts, with the likes of Justin Bieber performing there recently.

Thousands of extra people will book a Peru holiday in order to see the Rock in Rio festival, which attracts some of the finest musicians and singers in the world.

Indeed, last year's version saw Elton John, Shakira, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Rihanna take to the stage.
