Lima's Barranco district to become tourism hub

The days when Lima was seen as a quick stop off on the way to Machu Picchu are definitely over.

It is full of intriguing museums and galleries, not to mention some of the finest restaurants in South America. There is so much to see and do that travellers can spend days patrolling the metropolis.

One trendy district that is becoming increasingly popular among visitors is Barranco, which has numerous landmarks that are well worth a look.

It is home to Puente de los Suspiros - a famous bridge that was erected in the early 19th century - as well as a number of picturesque churches and monuments.

Tourism chiefs in the capital city are keen to see more people visit this part of town during their Peru holiday and the area's best attractions will now be promoted more frequently.

El Comercio reports that the Municipality of Barranco is partnering with the National Chamber of Tourism in order to raise awareness about this stunning part of Lima.
