Havana set to stage international poetry festival

The rustic setting of Havana has inspired some of the most famous writers in the world, including the likes of Ernest Hemingway.

It was not uncommon to see the American journalist and author jotting down his thoughts as he sat in a smoky Cuban bar with a mojito in his hand.

The stunning scenery and unique traditions that are associated with the Caribbean island have also prompted numerous talented poets to produce some of their best work.

People taking a holiday in Cuba next month can see for themselves just how passionate the locals are about writing.

The Havana International Poetry Festival will run between May 21st and 27th and acclaimed wordsmiths from all over the world are expected to descend on the capital city.

Readings will take place across a number of locations, including museums, outdoor spaces, cultural centres, schools and universities. A programme of topical seminars will also be held for people to learn more about poetry.
