Safari holidays news: New scheme helps environment in Tanzania

Travellers considering booking safari holidays in Tanzania may be encouraged to do so after learning of a new environmental initiative which is taking place in the country.

In the Mwanza region - which is located in the north of the African nation and borders on the Serengeti National Park - women's groups have been established to construct more efficient stoves for heating and cooking.

These building projects have been backed up by micro-finance schemes and have helped villagers to save money, improve their health through reduced smoke inhalation and lessen their impact on the environment, according to The Citizen.

Florence Ngembwe of the Upendo women's group said: "Before we were introduced to the mud stoves we were using traditional three-stone fire places.

"We would waste a lot of time fetching wood instead of doing other productive activities," she added.

Anyone who wants to enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife of Africa may wish to consider safari holidays in Tanzania, such as The Adventure Company's Serengeti Safari Family Holiday.
