Safari holidays 'are important to Tanzania'
Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete has reportedly encouraged travellers to visit the country on safari holidays.
Mr Kikwete was on hand to welcome the arrival to Tanzania of 32 eastern black rhinos which will take up residence in the famous Serengeti National Park.
Each of the rhinos has been flown to the country from South Africa at an estimated cost of $9,000 (£6,200) each as part of plans to restore a widespread population to the huge reserve, reports eTurboNews.
Speaking to the news provider, an unnamed source from the nearby town of Arusha said Mr Kikwete was eager to tell people planning Tanzania holidays that the rhinos will be well looked after.
"He reassured the tourism industry that the rhinos will be protected 24/7 and general security of game parks will be improved," the source explained. "I think he knows how important tourism is for our country."
The Adventure Company's Serengeti Explorer safari holiday gives travellers the chance to explore the park and maybe even catch a glimpse of the rhinos in their natural habitat.
