Machu Picchu tours news: Artefacts 'coming home'
Travellers who go on Machu Picchu tours in the future may be able to see even more artefacts as a result of the actions of a US official.
Connecticut senator Chris Dodd has called for Yale University to return a number of artefacts originating from the Incan site.
The antiquities, which include cups, pots and carvings, have already been the subject of a lawsuit filed by Peru two years ago.
Peruvian officials have voiced plans to launch a media campaign to highlight the issue.
In a statement, Mr Dodd argued that the items do not belong to any government, educational centre or institution.
"They belong to the people of Peru. I plan to work with both parties to resolve this dispute quickly, amicably, and return the artefacts to their rightful owners," he remarked.
The Adventure Company has plenty of packages for travellers looking to carve out their own piece of history on Machu Picchu tours.
Many trips include the once in a lifetime chance to trek the Inca Trail.
