First time at 40

Welcome Guest, to make a post on the forum you need to login or register.

Hi everyone.I'm looking for a bit of advice. This April I reached the dreaded 40th birthday. Some people say it's downhill all the way after 40 and some people say that life begins at 40.I'm hoping for the latter.I'd really like to start doing some traveling. The thing is I'm not into holidays where you just sit by the beach and get worse for wear on the local beer for two weeks.Thats why I've joined this site.I want to push myself and have a holiday that i'll never forget.I've never been on a adventure holiday before so I would be grateful for any advice at all on what kind of holiday would be ideal for a first.I'm not super fit but nor am I a slob either. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Some ideas could include - scuba diving/snorkelling (Red Sea), trek (Nepal), walking/cycling holiday (Europe), explore (Australia, Thailand etc).

How long are looking to go for?

Hello there,
you don't say much about yourself, except your age .... which really isn't the defining thing you might imagine.
I speak as a 47 year old male. I did some fairly adventurous things when younger (hitchhiked around when 16, bicycle toured Europe, climbed peaks in Alps & Himalayas, Sri Lanka, Safari). Then I did the best best thing of all and spent lots of time with my wife & children. By age 40-ish, it seemed like the days of joy and wonderful new things might be over. Wrong! There are always new dreams, first-times - find something that inspires you and go do it. Have you ever watched something on TV and thought "I wish I could do that"? In my case, a very undemanding family trip to Malta & Gozo allowed me to spend time snorkelling with fantastic sea-life - I loved it. Next week, we hope to be sailing the cost of Turkey.
Just think about what inspires you. Don't feel the need to impress anybody - if you want slow time somewhere remote and lacking headline attractions, do it - you have nothing to prove.
Have fun.

Hi, best trip I ever did was south west africa. Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa. Have done a few overland trips which I find great for single travelers as you get to meet like minded people and travel to out of the way places.

Many good ideas. For the rest does not matter the age. Wherever you choose surely earn a good
