Feluccas & Pharaohs - Family Holiday

excellent guide made a big difference (Majid was great) but the felucca was magical, and seeing Tutenkhamun's tomb was awesome (my son, Leo's, highlight -plus seeing a ray when snorkelling)

[Least enjoyed] constant attempts to sell us stuff

This was a really wonderful holiday and full of extraordinary sites and experiences.  We chose to stay a little longer in Hurghada and were really please we did as it gave us a chance to really rest and relax after white a busy schedule.

Feluccas & Pharaohs - Family Holiday

Different highlights for each of us.  My son liked the camel ride, I liked the temples.

[Least enjoyed] The Mosquitos and the hotel in Cairo. I'm sure the brochure said there weren't many Mosquitos but we've never been so badly bitten. Would have preferred an extra night at one of the nice hotels to another night in cairo

Really good bloke, he exceeded expectations and added value to the holiday.

Himalayan Teenage Adventure

Seeing the Himalayas
Our excellent guide'Kush'

[Least enjoyed] Leaving the beauty of the Himalayas and finishing the tour with Kathmandu sight seeing. We would have preferred to have done the sight seeing at the beginning and come straight back from Chitwan and gone home.

WE were very impressed by the porters and their standard of service and how well they worked as a whole group with our guide Kush and his assistant, despite their very different levels of responsibility.

WE really liked the Famous Farm guesthouse and food. The hotel in Bandipur was great but the food too western.

We couldn't fault our guide. He was friendly and informative and great with all ages. He really made the trip for us.

Himalayan Teenage Adventure

Fantastic trip to and around Nepal - crammed full with experiences and sights. Everything went smoothly and we felt very well looked after. All the guides were excellent - knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. The investment by Himalayan Encounters into local hotels, staff and community schemes was impressive and it made the holiday feel like part of something sustainable. Our main guide, Kush, was absolutely brilliant. He was the best possible family guide that could be imagined - he made friends with all the children and kept them busy and their spirits up, and he met all the questions and needs of the adults equally well. His enthusiasm, sense of humour and knowledge of his country and colleagues made the holiday a stand-out experience - way more than 10 out of 10!!

Would have happily spent another day or two on the trek to get a little further into the hills, and another day in the Chitwan for a longer jungle safari.

Kush is an outstanding group leader/guide, and especially for a family group. He kept everyone's spirits and energy up, he got to know all our names and things about us very quickly, he sorted all the arrangements quickly and efficiently, and he was an excellent representative for his country. We learned a great deal about Nepal and  Nepalese life from Kush. His unfailing sense of humour, and the energy that he put into making everything go well, made the trip truly memorable.

Jordan Family Holiday

The highlights of the trip were:

Petra - having seen it in photos and movies I thought I might be underwhelmed by the reality.  Far from it though.  The kids loved being in places where their favourite movies had been filmed - Transformers 2, Indiana Jones 3.

Wadi Rum - the desert is spectacular and the private bedouin camp a fantastic experience.  The kids helped Mahmood, the excellent camp host, to collect firewood, build the fire and cook dinner.  The 4x4 jeep ride through the desert was great fun along with climbing onto the rock bridge.

Amer, our group leader throughout our stay, made the trip especially magical.  Nothing was too much bother for him and time was never an issue.  He is so proud and passionate about his country and delights in sharing as much or as little information about Jordanian life, custom, culture and history as you want.  We came back with a much better understanding of Jordan and the Middle East as a whole.  He is great with kids - they loved him.  He took us to some great restaurants - every meal was delicious and fine tuned the itinerary to match our interests.  We felt completely safe throughout our stay, not least of all because of Amer's confident leadership and our driver, Khamal's, good driving. Amer is clearly very well connected on the tourist circuit - everyone seems to know him - and this had clear advantages to our group.  He made the trip for us!

Don't pack too much for this trip - you won't use it and it'll be a hassle dragging your bags around. Its a relaxed style of travel so clothing does not need to be formal. Do check out dress codes for Jordan to avoid causing offence. Do ask for a trip on which Amer is your guide!

Tunisian Voyager

The Camel trek into the Sahara and camping out under the stars was a great experience, well all loved it.

The tour leader, a Tunisian lady, Sonia, was great, making sure we were safe and looked after all the time.  She's a walking encyclopaedia of Tunisian history, and made a real difference to the holiday.

As we were one family, we had a personal tour which was great. We can't understand why so few English people are travelling in Tunisia as the French are everywhere in numbers. The Tunisian people we met were all friendly and helpful, and left us with a great feeling of respect for them as a Nation. They have managed to change things positively without the problems currently evident in other arab countries, and we experienced far less hassle here than in Morocco or Egypt.

Feluccas & Pharaohs - Family Holiday

Our guide, Maged, was excellent - both for information and organisation and when entertaining the kids in the pool.

The hotel in Cairo was not a pleasant place to stay: rowdy, smoky and a bit of a waste of time.

Cut out the return to Cairo for one night at the end: it means two airport transfers for one night in a hotel which was not up to much. The time would be better spent at Aswan or Hurghada.

Feluccas & Pharaohs - Family Holiday

The felucca trip was a wonderful, relaxing interlude in a fast paced itinerary, and a chance to get to know other families. The Red Sea boat trip was our very favourite activity. The Nubian Village meal was also a highlight. The care and service we had from Sun Boat travel was fantastic, with special thanks to Magid, our tour guide.

The last day in Cairo is really a waste of a day. If the itinerary could be arranged to fly back from Hurghada, it would avoid 2 very early mornings and 2 trips through the Cairo traffic. Also, we needed another day in Aswan to recover from the train. Everyone on the trip was too tired to do the Philae temple excursion. The low points were the lack of sleep due to late evenings and early starts, and the hotel in Cairo which was noisy and unsafe.

For the brochure, we would rate the trip as moderate paced, not easy, and for 7+, not 5. It would be worth mentioning that a wet suit is recommended for smaller children as the Red Sea is quite cold in April, and it did seem a bit mean to make us pay for a sleeping bag on the felucca, as no other bedding was provided, and it was necessary.

Aswan piramisa, excellent. Luxor Iberotel excellent. Hurghada Piramisa above expectation, Cairo piramisa standard fine, but noisy and full of groups of young men roaming about. Didn't feel very secure there. Overnight train got a negative review from our family! we didn't know what to expect, but I wish I had, so I could have prepared the children better.

Magid was brilliant

Himalayan Teenage Adventure

The whole cultural experience was excellent, brought together by an excellent and talented trip guide. The friendliness of the Nepalese people is remarkable and very welcoming.

[Least enjoyed] Not knowing who was not an adventure company member when being greeted at the airport.
The misty visibility obscuring the mountain views was disappointing.

The varied means of transport made it exciting.
The trekking through villages was the best way to get a feel of the local peoples as they were so ready to talk about their lives.
The guide was so apt at keeping the group positive and together when one member was struggling.

The accommodation is suitably pitched to provide you with a real experience of what its like in the real Nepal, in both the towns and the countryside, authentic.

It was fantastic to see in the villages a plaque acknowledging where the charity support money had come from . It is lovely to think that our tourist money is helping support the local staff and business because the adventure company use local people and they are grateful for it.

kush is an exceptional young man, he is a credit not only to the Adventure company and Himalayan adventures but as an ambassador to Nepal. He has the ability to keep the group together and inspired when flagging, to make every one feel special both child and adult. He entertains the kids and inspires the adults with local knowledge. He understand s what he is doing with tourists will enhance the lives of his local village people. Excellent and thank you for making our trip a life changes experience.
