Former Filipino Street Child Wins International Children's Peace Prize

There aren't many 13 year olds that can boast Noble Peace Laureate, Desmond Tutu presented them with an award for the International Children's Peace Prize, but Kesz Valdez can. On September 19th, Kesz was awarded the prize for his charity Championing Community Children. A former street child used to living among the rubbish in the Philippines, Kesz has led an extraordinary life for a 13 year old.

UC Researchers uncover the largest ancient Mayan dam in Mexico

Researchers and archaeologists from the University of Cincinnati have uncovered the largest Maya dam ever to be built in the pre-colombian city fo Tikal. That dam was constructed from cut stone, rubble and soil, and stretched more than 260 feet in length, stood about 33 feet high. It is reckoned to have held about 20 million gallons of water in a man-made reservoir.
