Traveller's Tales- Saharan Sands adventure 2013 by Yvonne Alexander

"Mum. Are you SURE we're in the middle of the Sahara Desert?" said my eight year old son, Evan, looking around, incredulously at the extraordinary, beautiful, silent, lunar landscape around him. I could understand his disbelief. We live, slap bang in the middle of London, so arriving by camel and constructiing a desert encampment, miles from civilisation, was like nothing we'd ever experienced before.

Top 5 things to do in Cuba with kids

The atmosphere throughout Cuba is vibrant and lively; it has an intoxicating feel and a visit will leave you full of historical knowledge and with a passion for dance. I love Cuba because it's a friendly, beautiful place to take your kids. There's excitement, cultural enrichment and education, plus it has some of the best beaches in Latin America. Havana has just been named world's 'best destination' according to Wanderlust readers and rightly so. It's a must for families to experience the incredible ambiance of Cuba.

Following footprints in Tanzania - by Phoebe Millard, aged 15

When we visited Saadani National Park, the thing I was most surprised by was how many game drives we went on. I was expecting to go on a few, but not get into the jeep every day! They were so much fun. We learnt something different every day. For example, one day we would take camera traps disguised as pieces of tree and position them in popular areas like waterholes, that animals went. Then, at the end of the week we all collected our camera traps and had a look at what we had got.

Top 10 tips for Tanzania - by Lucien Millard, aged 8

1. You must remember to take your malaria pills every day - swallow them with a banana is the easiest way.

2. Just as we did at Longleat Safari Park in the UK, when we went on the Longleat Family African Safari we took a pair of binoculars to spot giraffes and even smaller animals.

3. It’s a good idea to remember to bring a torch because Africa can be very dark at night.

4. Don't be surprised if an elephant charges at you - but don't panic at any stage. Ask the driver to return to the road if necessary.

Elephants in Tanzania - by Gabriel Millard, aged 13

Their names are Colossus, Charlie and Jan. Despite their names these are not human beings. They are in fact, giant African elephants; and they live in Sadaani National Park in Tanzania.
